WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

The Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) is an internationally renowned non-profit organization that encourages the participation of women in earth science, enhances their advancement in earth science, and exchanges educational, technical, and professional information.

Our local chapter is referred to as the “DMV” (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) chapter of AWG. The Washington, D.C. area includes the suburbs of Virginia and Maryland, with many universities, museums, government agencies, non-profits, and private companies.

Our chapter is characterized by an active and enthusiastic group that takes full advantage of our region’s geological resources. We focus on connecting generations, encouraging diversity, empowering student/early-career geologists, and educating the public. These initiatives align closely with the overall goals of AWG, and enhance DC’s established reputation as a center for geological research, education, and opportunity.

Our chapter schedules monthly events, including informal happy hours, field trips, museum tours, and educational outreach activities for primary and secondary schools. We are excited to have a foothold for AWG in DC’s experienced, diverse community, and highly encourage all earth scientists (regardless of gender) to join!

Remember, AWG is the Association for Women Geoscientists, not of Women Geoscientists. Your support is greatly appreciated.
